Your body exists in the past and your mind in the future, in yoga they come together in the present.

The classes are a perfect balance of contemplation and physical balance. Students get guidance on proper alignment and methods of doing asanas. Some days can be stressful and hectic, but having an opportunity to sit and be mindful of my breathing at the start and end of the class is particularly rewarding.

I came to Sonal as an ‘older’ student (in my 60s), quite set in my ways, and convinced yoga was not for me. I was pleasantly surprised! In a short time, I noticed my strength and flexibility improving, and felt re-energised. What’s more, I found myself enjoying her yoga sessions immensely! From a beginner to Kakasana (Crow pose) in a few months. She respected my age and worked on my strengths and limits.

The Yoga sessions are great. I have a lot of fun learning.

Sonal is everything I was looking for in a yoga teacher and more! She has a vast knowledge of both the theoretical and practical aspects of yoga. But it is her gentle demeanor and endless patience and encouragement that make every class a rich and transformative experience.

my quest for yoga

I come from the birthplace of Ashtanga Yoga–Mysore, India. My early yoga practice began as a form of fitness, and I felt immediately drawn to it. Every yoga class pushed me to improve my strength and flexibility for each Asana. The feeling of being content, happy, and light after a yoga session was powerful, and I found the practice of breath and movement to be healing and transformational. The yoga shala where I practiced offered teacher training courses, which I saw as a chance to further intensify my practice. My teacher, Bharat Shetty, inspired me to pursue the Level I 250RYT Hatha teacher training in 2011. Along with my full-time job, I began teaching yoga to a small group of people. In 2016, I moved to Houston, where I discovered an Ayurvedic Massage Spa and began teaching yoga classes in the evenings. My friend suggested taking an online Vinyasa teacher training course. I saw this as an opportunity to expand my practice and enrolled in Aayana Yoga Academy’s 200HR Vinyasa and Yoga Nidra course in 2021. It was an enjoyable, educational, and humbling experience. Another best decision I have made is by getting certified in June 2022 in Inferno Hot Pilates. I gained strength to deepen my yoga, strong core and, shed off pounds. Aside from yoga and my job, I am addicted to gardening, a passion for African Violets and Orchids, and I’m currently training my goofy labrador to be a Therapy Dog.
